Metallic Products — Types of Inspection Documents
Defines what a material certificate is worth. Type 2.2 is the manufacturer's own statement based on non-specific inspection; 3.1 is specific inspection with results, validated by the manufacturer's own independent inspection function; 3.2 adds validation by the purchaser's representative or an independent inspector. Specifying 3.1 when the service needed 3.2, or accepting 2.2 against a 3.1 requirement, is one of the commonest material findings on a project.
This is an explanation, not the standard. PipingInspector is not affiliated with CEN and reproduces no part of the document. Always work to the current edition of the standard itself and to your project specification.
