Certification

Everything on this site is free to read and always will be. Certification is the assessed version of the same material — the same topics, taken in a deliberate order, with worked examples, exercises, job aids and an assessment that says whether you actually understood it.

7 pathways, 35 modules, each ending in a Certificate of Completion.

What the certificate is — and what it is not

It is a Certificate of Completion issued by Alpine Inspection Services. That is the registered inspection company behind PipingInspector and the name printed on the document, so the certificate carries a different name from the site you bought it on. It records that you worked through the modules and passed the assessments, which are marked on our server rather than in your browser.

It is not an accredited or third-party credential. It is not API 510, 570 or 653, not CSWIP, not ASNT NDT Level II, and it does not qualify you to sign, certify or approve anything. Those are formal credentials awarded by their own bodies after their own examinations, and nothing here substitutes for them.

We say this plainly because the industries this site serves take certification seriously, and so do we. What this certificate is worth is exactly what you can demonstrate with it in a conversation.

Who this is for — and what it does not cover

It is written for inspection, supervision and the engineering behind them. Specification and materials, the components on a line, reading drawings, layout and support judgement, fabrication and testing, site erection, and the API 570 body of knowledge. If you inspect piping, supervise its erection, or are moving into either, this is aimed at you.

It is not a piping design software course. It does not cover 3D plant modelling — PDMS, E3D, SP3D, CADWorx, AutoCAD — and it does not teach stress analysis in CAESAR II or any other package. Where analysis matters, such as nozzle loads and flexibility, it explains what the analysis is for and what its results mean, not how to drive the software.

Designers are welcome and will find the specification, drawing and layout material directly useful: it is the judgement their drawings are made from. But a designer looking for modelling or stress-analysis training will not find it here, and we would rather say so before you buy than after.

What it costs

Prices are in Indian rupees and include everything. There are no add-ons, no subscription and nothing billed again automatically. Each price is for one item, for three months.

Bundles

Several courses together for less than the sum of their prices. Everything in a bundle arrives in the one account, each course keeps its own assessment, and each one earns its own certificate.

    Complete Piping Foundation

    All four foundation courses

The four courses that together cover the ground every piping engineer, supervisor and inspector needs before specialising: what a line is made of, what is on it, how to read the drawings that describe it, and how the work actually gets done. Twenty modules, twenty worked examples, sixty exercises and four separate certificates.

    Piping Engineer Programme

The four foundation courses and the layout course

Everything in the Foundation bundle, and then the course that separates piping from plumbing: why a line is routed where it is, how far it moves when it gets hot, and what holds it. Growth and restraint, loops and anchors, choosing a support rather than reading one, why a machine nozzle rather than the pipe is the real constraint, and the layout and access decisions a unit is judged on long after handover. It teaches the engineering judgement behind a layout, not the tools: this programme does not cover 3D modelling or stress analysis software. Twenty-five modules, twenty-five worked examples, seventy-five exercises and five separate certificates.

Piping Inspection — Fabrication and Testing

The four foundation courses and the inspection course

Everything in the Foundation bundle, and then new-construction quality control on process piping: where an inspector's authority actually comes from, what a welding qualification file really covers, what ASME B31.3 Chapters V and VI require of the work and of the examination of it, and what has to be in the dossier before any of it is handed over. New construction rather than in-service, so no API 570 and no API 1104. Twenty-five modules, twenty-five worked examples, seventy-five exercises and five separate certificates.

    Piping Site Supervision

The four foundation courses and the supervision course

Everything in the Foundation bundle, and then the execution side of construction: sequencing work that can actually be built, lifting and the hours a spool spends unsupported, the diameter-inch the whole industry is measured and paid in, supervising under a permit in a live plant, and the records that decide much later who pays for what. For the person running a crew rather than the person understanding a project. Twenty-five modules, twenty-five worked examples, seventy-five exercises and five separate certificates.

    Complete Piping Programme

All seven piping courses: foundation, layout, inspection and supervision

Every piping course on the site. The four foundation courses on what a line is made of, what is on it, how to read the drawings and how the work gets done, and then all three role courses that sit on them: layout, flexibility and support for the design side, fabrication and testing inspection for quality, and erection and site supervision for execution. The three role courses are each written for a different chair at the same table, and they meet at the welded attachment, the non-conformance and the support. Thirty-five modules, thirty-five worked examples, a hundred and five exercises and seven separate certificates.

Exam preparation

Preparation for a certification somebody else awards. Original practice questions written from the codes, each with an explanation rather than just a letter, and a course teaching the whole published Body of Knowledge — every examinable item, enforced by a checker rather than claimed. Neither is the certification — that is awarded by the body setting the exam, never by us.

    API 570 Exam Preparation

The whole Body of Knowledge, and how to find it under exam conditions

Preparation for the API 570 Piping Inspector certification exam, built against the published Body of Knowledge for February, June and October 2026. The BOK is not one book — it spans eleven documents, and this covers every examinable item in all of them, including the parts it explicitly excludes so that no time is wasted revising them. One part of the exam is open book, so part of the skill is knowing where an answer lives and finding it under time pressure; that is taught here as deliberately as the calculations are. API 570 is awarded by the American Petroleum Institute and nothing here confers it.

Interview preparation

Hundreds of discipline-specific questions per pack, each with a full explanation — the thinking behind the answer, not just the letter. Written from the standards and the actual responsibilities of the role, for the Gulf EPC and Aramco-based project interviews that lean on practical knowledge rather than textbook recall. A pack costs about an hour of billable time; the job it prepares you for pays that back in a day.

Bought something already? Sign in with the email you bought with — everything you own sits in the one account, and anything you buy later joins it.

Purchases are not refundable, because access is granted in full the moment payment clears — please read refunds and cancellations before buying. If you would rather pay another way, emailsupport@pipinginspector.com and we will arrange it.

What you get, and for how long

Everything you buy sits in your account together — courses, exam preparation and interview packs, whatever combination you have. You sign in and it is there.

Access runs for three months from the day you buy. Inside that time there is no limit at all: read the modules as often as you like, retake an assessment, drill a question pack end to end and start again. Nothing is metered and nothing is counted.

Need longer? Ask us and we will extend it. Life gets in the way of studying, and we would rather add a few months than watch someone lose what they paid for. Email support@pipinginspector.com from the address you bought with.

Buying the same thing again adds to the time you have left rather than replacing it, so you never lose days you have already paid for.

A certificate you have earned does not expire. It is yours, the verification link keeps working, and nothing that happens to your course access afterwards touches it. The three months are for the material, not the qualification.

The pathways

  1. The foundation path

    Piping Components, Materials and Specifications

Read any line list, decode any line on it, say what every component is made of and why, and challenge a specification before it reaches a fabricator.

    5 modules11-12 hours50-question assessment

  2. The components path

Valves, Fittings, Flanges and Specialty Items

Pick a valve for its duty rather than for the drawing, understand why most flange leaks are assembly rather than hardware, and know what a fail position decision is actually deciding.

    5 modules11-12 hours50-question assessment

  3. The drawings path

Reading P&ID, PFD and Isometric Drawings

The highest-leverage skill on a project. Learn to read the documents every discipline argues in front of, and to know which one governs when they disagree.

    5 modules10-11 hours50-question assessment

  4. The project path

    Practical Workflow and Field Coordination

How a design becomes a plant — and how the handover, the permit and the inspection regime decide whether it keeps running safely for forty years.

    5 modules11-12 hours50-question assessment

  5. How the line moves and what holds it

    Piping Layout, Flexibility and Support

The half of piping engineering that sits between the specification and the drawing. A hot line grows a long way and restraining it produces a force large enough to destroy whatever is holding it, so the route, the restraint scheme and every support on it are one decision rather than three. This path works through that decision, out to the machine nozzle that usually turns out to be the real constraint, and ends with the layout and access choices a unit is judged on long after handover.

    5 modules12-14 hours50-question assessment

  6. What an inspector may reject, and on what authority

    Piping Fabrication and Testing Inspection

New-construction quality control on process piping, built on ASME B31.3 Chapters V and VI with ASME Section IX. Not the in-service inspection of plant that is already running, which is where API 570 lives, but the inspector on a fabrication yard or an EPC site deciding whether the weld made this morning may stay in the line. The subject is not welding. It is authority, evidence and the decision to accept or reject: where the right to stop work comes from, what the qualification file actually covers, what the code requires of the work and of the examination of it, and what has to be in the dossier before any of it can be handed over.

    5 modules14-16 hours50-question assessment

  7. Getting it built, with these people, by Thursday

    Piping Erection and Site Supervision

The execution side of piping construction, which is a different competence from understanding a project rather than a deeper version of it. Course 4 explains what a permit is and why proving an isolation matters; this is the person who signs on for a crew of fourteen at seven in the morning, under a permit somebody else wrote, with three spools, one crane shared with the civil contractor and a tie-in window that closes at four. Sequencing, lifting and the hours a spool spends unsupported, the diameter-inch the whole industry is measured and paid in, working in a live plant, and the records that decide much later who pays for what.

What you are actually paying for

Not access. The explanations are free, and none of them are held back to make this page look better. What you are paying for is structure and assessment.

If you want to understand a subject, read the site. If you want to be able to challenge a specification on Monday and have something that says you can, take the certification.

How a module works

Every module has the same shape, so you always know where you are.

What you will be able to do
Four capability statements — things you can do afterwards, not topics covered.
Before you start
What the module assumes, so you can go back if you need to.
Five lessons
The teaching, with a checkpoint at the end of each.
Worked example
A realistic problem with a deliberate trap, built around something that genuinely goes wrong. Attempt it before reading on.
Job aid
A check table to take to work. Every row has a “stop and ask if”.
Three exercises
Answered in writing, then compared against a model answer.
Assessment
Ten questions, marked immediately, with explanations. A pass is seven.
Completion criteria
Including one required output applied to a real document from your own work.

Certificate criteria

One condition: 35 of 50 assessment questions correct across the five module assessments — a pass mark of seven out of ten per module.

The exercises are practice. Nobody marks them but you, and they are not a condition of the certificate. They are in the course because writing an answer out is how you find the gap in it, not because anyone is checking.

Assessments are marked on the server, so the answers never reach your browser and a score cannot be edited. Questions are written so that every wrong answer is one a beginner might genuinely pick — they test whether you understood the idea, not whether you memorised a phrase. Correct answers are spread across all four positions, so an assessment cannot be passed by pattern.

Why this exists

Most of what engineers know about piping is picked up by sitting near someone experienced for a year or two. It works, slowly, and it leaves gaps nobody can see — because the learner never finds out what they were not told.

The free site closes those gaps for anyone who goes looking. Certification is for the engineer who wants the route decided for them, wants to be tested on it, and wants something at the end that shows the work was done.
