Foundations for Dynamic Equipment

The American Concrete Institute report on foundations for rotating and reciprocating machinery, and the standard reference for compressor, pump and turbine blocks in process plant. It covers the machine data the foundation designer must obtain before anything can be sized, the dynamic analysis of block, tabletop and spring-supported foundations, the rules of thumb on foundation mass relative to machine mass, the separation that must be kept between the machine operating speed and the natural frequency of the foundation, permissible vibration amplitudes, and the detailing of anchor bolts, grout and construction joints. A companion part covers grouting practice. Most machine foundation problems in service trace back to something in this document being skipped at design or at installation.

This is an explanation, not the standard. PipingInspector is not affiliated with ACI and reproduces no part of the document. Always work to the current edition of the standard itself and to your project specification.
