Cold Weather Concreting
What to do when the concrete may freeze before it has gained enough strength to resist freezing, which is permanent damage rather than delay. Covers protection periods, heated enclosures and materials, and the point most often missed on site — that cold slows hydration, so strength at a given age is lower than a schedule assumes, and formwork striking should follow the concrete rather than the calendar.
This is an explanation, not the standard. PipingInspector is not affiliated with ACI and reproduces no part of the document. Always work to the current edition of the standard itself and to your project specification.
