ACI 207

Mass Concrete

The guide to concrete placed in sections large enough that the heat of cement hydration and the resulting volume change have to be designed for rather than ignored. It supplies the reasoning behind the two limits a specification usually carries — a peak core temperature and a core-to-surface differential — and the measures that control each, which are different measures. Relevant on a process plant far more often than its reputation as a dam document suggests: machine foundation blocks, tank base mats, large pile caps and containment walls all qualify.

This is an explanation, not the standard. PipingInspector is not affiliated with ACI and reproduces no part of the document. Always work to the current edition of the standard itself and to your project specification.
