Pipe Hangers and Supports — Selection and Application
The companion to SP-58: which support type to use where, recommended spacing for water and vapour service, and the rules on rod sizing and hanger location. Its span table is the one most projects start from, and the thing worth remembering about it is that the spacing is governed by sag as well as stress — a line that meets the stress limit can still pocket.
This is an explanation, not the standard. PipingInspector is not affiliated with MSS and reproduces no part of the document. Always work to the current edition of the standard itself and to your project specification.
