Positive Material Identification
Reading a component's alloy content in place with a handheld X-ray fluorescence or optical emission instrument, to prove it is the material the drawing specified. It tests the metal rather than the certificate — which matters because a wrong alloy component looks identical once painted and passes every other inspection.
