NFPA
NFPA 59A
Standard for the Production, Storage, and Handling of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)
The LNG facility siting and safety standard, and the origin of most of the civil works that are not the tank itself. It sets the impoundment requirements — how much spilled liquid must be contained, by dyke or by pit, and how that containment volume is calculated — along with separation distances, thermal and vapour exclusion zones, and the spill control arrangements around pumps, vaporisers and transfer lines. Bund geometry, trench routing and the grading of a process area usually trace back to a clause in this document.
This is an explanation, not the standard. PipingInspector is not affiliated with NFPA and reproduces no part of the document. Always work to the current edition of the standard itself and to your project specification.
