Recommended Practice for Maintenance, Testing and Replacement of Vented Lead-Acid Batteries
The maintenance and test regime for station batteries — the monthly, quarterly and annual inspections, the acceptance, performance and service capacity tests, and the end-of-life criterion of eighty per cent of rated capacity. It is the reference that separates a battery that looks healthy on a float voltage reading from one that has been proven to carry its load for its rated duration, which is the only measurement that matters when the supply fails. Companion practices cover valve-regulated and nickel-cadmium types.
This is an explanation, not the standard. PipingInspector is not affiliated with IEEE and reproduces no part of the document. Always work to the current edition of the standard itself and to your project specification.
