Maritime Works

The British Standard series for maritime structures, and the usual reference for jetties, wharves, dolphins and approach trestles outside the offshore codes. It covers planning and design of the works, the derivation of berthing and mooring loads including the energy a fender system has to absorb, the design of fendering and mooring equipment, materials and durability in the marine environment with its exposure zones, geotechnical and scour considerations, and inspection and maintenance of completed works. Its practical value to an integrity engineer is that it ties the structural capacity of a berth to the operational limits on ship size and approach velocity that the berth was designed for.

This is an explanation, not the standard. PipingInspector is not affiliated with BSI and reproduces no part of the document. Always work to the current edition of the standard itself and to your project specification.
