Bearing currents
Shaft voltages induced by a variable frequency drive's fast switching, which discharge through the motor bearing and pit the races. Over months this produces a characteristic fluting pattern and the bearing fails. Designed out with insulated bearings or a shaft earthing brush — it is not something protection detects.
